An Introduction to the Benefits of Traditional Bamboo Salt Products in Korea

Korean bamboo salt products have seen increasing levels of global popularity over the past several years. At the same time, many people are still unfamiliar with bamboo products and the benefits they offer. This is largely because the global community doesn't know what makes Korea bamboo products unique.

The Basics of Bamboo Salt

Traditionally, bamboo salt is composed of sun-dried sea salt from the West Coast of the Korean Peninsula. Once dried the sea salt is put into thick bamboo stubs, often sourced from the Chirisan Mountain. Manufacturing high quality salt is a nine process event.

After the sea salt is dried it is placed inside a bamboo stub. It is then sealed inside with yellow sod. Next the bamboo stub is baked in a furnace at temperatures over 1000 degrees Celsius for eight or more hours. During the baking process, the bamboo is melted and forms into a single hardened piece. The baking process also turns the bamboo into ash which ensures the vitamins and minerals from the bamboo and yellow sod are transferred to the salt. That piece is later broken down into smaller fragments. This specific process is repeated eight times.

The final process is slightly different than the previous eight and essential for ensuring any impurities are removed. The salt is heated to 1500 degree Celsius with pine resin and other materials. This ensures the salt is completely melted in the furnace. The melted salt then flows out of the furnace and collected. Once it has cooled, it is broken down into tiny fragments or a fine powder.

How Korean Bamboo Salt Products Are Used

Korean bamboo salt products can be used in a variety of different applications. One of the most common uses is medicinal. It offers significant antibacterial and anti-inflammatory characteristics. As a result, it is commonly added to face creams and toothpaste. Some studies note adding bamboo to toothpaste can heal certain tooth diseases and stop bleeding gums within a few uses.

Bamboo salt products in Korea can contain more than 70 essential minerals and micro nutrients. It is also high in calcium, magnesium, and zinc. With all of these nutrients it shouldn't be surprising to learn it is often added to cosmetics and food. Bamboo has a proven track record of helping create and maintain healthy skin. It can even effectively kill the bacteria responsible for acne. In terms of adding it to food, it can either be added directly to a dish or simply used as a replacement for traditional table salt.
