Science and Technology

The use of tools, machines, materials, techniques, and sources of power to make work easier and more productive. Industrial technology began 200 years ago with the introduction of power-driven machines, the growth of factories, and the mass production of goods. Whereas science is concerned with understanding how and why things happen, technology deals with making things happen; it can be subdivided into many specializations, such as medical, military, and nuclear. Technology has helped people to gain control over nature, and so build a civilized world. Undesirable side-effects include increased pollution and loss of jobs as a result of automation.
